Under the Crown / 225th Anniversary of the Siege of Fort Cornwallis

Living History Park, North Augusta, SC, June 2006

This event was new to us this year. The event portrays the British occupation of Augusta in 1780-81. It is a similar scenario to UTR up at Colonial Williamsburg. We use the buildings in the Living History Park to simulate Augusta. Due to this year being the 225th Anniversary, the event this year actually consisted of 3 different activities; a fundraising dinner, the UTC event, and a commemorative battle of the siege of Fort Cornwallis held on the actual location of the fort.

The Dinner

The fundraising dinner was a buffet-style dinner featuring various colonial-style dishes. Guests were seated at tables and each table was hosted by a 1st person reenactor. The reenactor had to stay in 1st person throughout the dinner. Following dinner there was time for each of us to stand up, introduce our persona to the guests-at-large, and then break character to introduce ourselves, what we do in the real world and a bit about how we got involved in living history. 3 members from the SID hosted tables; Grant Hardin, David Brown, and Chuck Hudson. Following the dinner was a time for 18th Century country dancing.

We spent some time before the guests arrived renewing old friendships.
