Southern Indian Department Charter And Bylaws

Charter:

  1. Name: The name of this Organization shall be His Majesty’s Southern Department of Loyal Indian Allies (hereafter referred to as the Organization). The Organization is a re-enactment organization dedicated to the portrayal of the active period of the British Southern Indian Department in the Colonies--roughly from the early 1760s through the Revolutionary War (American War for Independence) and its immediate Colonial precursors.

Members of this Organization consist of those who portray Southeastern Native people, His Majesty's Indian Department Officers and Employees, Loyalist Rangers and Crown Troops with duties in direct support of the Indian Department.

  1. Purpose: The purpose of the Organization shall be as follows: To promote, advance and encourage interest and education in colonial and early American history through participation in living history demonstrations, military and civilian historical reenactments, and through public and private exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, and roundtable discussions and to promote, encourage and provide social and friendly intercourse among the members.

  1. Membership:
    1. As the intention of this Organization is to have members who actively take part in events throughout the south, membership is generally limited to those people residing in the states in which the original Southern Indian Department had authority and those states immediately adjacent to them (VA, TN, NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, LA, AR, MO, KY, WV and MD). Applications for membership by persons residing outside of this area will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
    2. Membership is open to all persons within the above area, regardless of race, religion, sex, or ancestry. As this is an historical depiction of a particular group of people during a particular period however, members must portray a character consistent with that particular time and place.
    3. The method and conditions by which members shall be accepted shall be enumerated in the Bylaws.
  1. Governance: The routine business of the Organization shall be governed by the elected Officers. The method and conditions by which officers shall be elected and their duties and responsibilities shall be enumerated in the Bylaws.
