Additional Opportunities The following events are not “unit sanctioned” events but are other events that we have received information about and where southeastern native persona of our period would not be out of place. The fact that these events are not “unit sanctioned” may be due to scheduling issues, length of event, or our unfamiliarity with the quality of the event to name but a few reasons. April 11-13, 2008 “F& I Encampment”, Fort Toulouse, Wetumpka, AL http://www.forttoulouse.com/pages/ft_events.asp From the website: The Fort Toulouse French-Indian War Encampment re-enacts the time period of the war between the French and the British.. The public and re-enactors are treated to the best and most exciting living history event in the Southeast. Sutlers welcome. April 26, 2008 “Backcountry Carolina”, Historic Latta Plantation, Huntersville, NC. Time period for this event will be, say, mid to late 1700s. The event is to highlight the experiences of a typical individual or family who was not wealthy, but simply trying to start a farm and a life on the frontier; as well as also interpreting the natives who were already here and were dealing with those people as their numbers increased and their farms grew. The year 1777 was a critical year for both the settlers of the Watauga River and the Cherokee. Join re-enactors from all over the southeastern part of the country as they reveal the complex relationship between these two cultures. Activities include: battle scenario, educational programs by American Indian and European settler re-enactors, storytelling, and period dance and music. The Fort Loudoun Trade Faire is held in September in conjunction with the Great Island Festival. Hundreds of Living History re-enactors, tradesmen and sutlers gather to celebrate the end of the Summer. A plethora of 18th Century entertainers and daily battle reenactment scenarios add excitement and variety to the event. Individual registration/jurying required.
